Alarm.com Headquarters Oxygen Room – INC Magazine’s Office Amenity of the Year 2017
When Alarm.com began constructing their new headquarters in Tysons Corner, VA, they knew they wanted an office that incorporated the best practices of biophilic principles and the WELL standard. Central staircases, lots of windows and natural light – and in the center of it all, they wanted to create an oasis for their workers to be able to come into and relax and recharge.
Thus was born the concept of the Oxygen room. A fully glass enclosed planted space in the center of the 8th floor lobby right in the heart of the Alarm.com headquarters. The wall is an Active Air Filtration (AAF) Nedlaw BioWall system hooked into it’s own stand alone HVAC unit that draws the air in the room through the wall, then pumps the air right back in the room – creating an immediately noticeable positive difference in the air and atmosphere as soon as you enter the room.
The AAF BioWall, 18’ long x 6’ tall moves all the air in the room through the unit every 5 minutes, creating the cleanest and freshest air anywhere in the building. With complementary plantings around the room, as well as an additional green wall adjacent to the GWS installation – the room surrounds all visitors with the feeling of being in nature – complimented by the sounds of nature played in the background of the room as well.
In 2017, INC Magazine’s survey of offices in the region found that the Oxygen Room was the most popular amenity of any added to any office, and as such was awarded the Office Amenity of the Year award for 2017. GWS, as with all of our systems, continues to maintain this great example of an AAF green wall.
